Calories In = Calories Out

Do you know how many calories you are eating each day? Do you know how many calories your body needs each day? Do you keep track of your calories?
The first thing you can do to help you get on track is to start tracking your calorie intake. There are so many great apps that you can download on your smartphone or tablet. My favorite is My Fitness Pal. It is FREE and it has many great feature that can help you stay on track and motivated.

The best way for you to know your daily calorie intake is to take the next two days and record your food on My Fitness Pal or another app. Record every bite you take. Include beverages and snacks even that handful of M&M’s you might grab when you pass the candy jar. Or those grazing moments in the kitchen. When you do this it will help you know exactly how many calories you have been putting in each day. One of my clients said this opened his eyes so much because he was eating over 5,000 calories a day and he didn’t even realize it!

The second thing you can do to help you is to know how many calories your body needs each day. I suggest you go to Calorie Calculator to enter your weight, gender, height, and activity level. It is very important that you are honest when you record these answers. If you haven’t weighed yourself in a long time, you need to go and step on the scale to make sure you know the exact number. This calculator will give you calorie intake for maintenance weight, for 1 pound a week loss, and for 2 pounds a week loss. Now that you know your calories, start by staying within those calories for the next week.

Now, it is important to know that a calorie is not just a calorie.

The food items in the picture above are all 100 calories. You don’t even get a whole donut for 100 calories Which one would be the best choice? Yes, the apple. The donut we all know is full of sugar and fat with no nutritional value. Some of you might have debated between the juice and the apple. The juice has taken all the fiber out so some of the natural sugar will be used as energy but the rest will be stored as fat. The apple has the most nutritional value with fiber and phytonutrients. So you can see that the food you choice is very important to give your body the nutrients it need each day. A calorie is not just a calorie!

Think of your calories as money you will be spending each day. You want to make each calorie count to help your body function in the best way. Don’t spend your calories on beverages. Spend your calories on the foods that will give your body what it needs each day. Too many calories and too few calories do not give your body the fuel it is needing to function properly.

Today is a new day! Getting the calories your body needs will help you be FIT to SERVE for the purpose GOD has for you. We want our bodies to not keep us from doing the amazing things God has in store for us!

Today is the perfect day to begin!
